Cab Front Sheet work

The cab front sheet is being prepared for fitting.

Here Robin Matthews uses the special drill system to line up the holes so correctly profiled bolts can be used to permanently fix it in place

Engineering Progress

Progress on building 6880 is continuing as the following photographs show.

These bolts are for fixing the Extension Frames to the Main Frames

This is one of the Brake Shaft Castings

This is a view of the front end showing the cast brackets to support the front buffer beam

The footplating has been secured to the frames and painted

Brakeshaft Patterns made

These are the brakeshaft bracket and bearing cap patterns. Casting will take place early next month and after machining will be fitted early March.

‘Dog Legs’ Rivetted

On Monday 12th December the task of rivetting the ‘dog leg’ spring hangers to the frame was undertaken, as these pictures show

Footplating receives primer paint

On December 4th Quentin McGuinness and Richard Pumphrey were to be found adding green primer to the footplating before the sheets are bolted into place.

New Racking Plate Takes Shape

The paid staff at Llangollen Railway Engineering have been busy this past week. A new racking plate has been made and is ready for fitting. Holes have also been opened out to the correct diameter in the mainframes for securing the dog legs. Pictures by Dave Owen.Above: The new racking plate for 6880

June 2011 News Update

Rapid progress being made on the restoration of the front bogie from ex-GWR ‘Hall’ No. 5952 Cogan Hall, which is being renovated by locally-based Betton Grange Society members at Williton works on the West Somerset Railway. A similar programme is underway with the buffers and front buffer beam. Continue reading

Extension Frames Drilling

The extension frames are now being drilled, with completion due on Tuesday 29th of March.

They are due back at Llangollen before the Gala.

Extension Frames Machining

The two extension frame profiles are now undergoing machining at GH Stone, Street, Somerset.
