The 81st ‘Grange’ is close to steaming and fills a void in the ranks of preserved ex-GWR locomotives as none of the class survived the cutter’s torch.
For more than 20 years, the project’s members and supporters have given generously to enable what was once a dream to come to fruition.
We now have that locomotive, but to finish the job, we need to construct a new tender to run with it. None of Collett’s original 3,500-gallon tenders have survived into preservation, so we are in the process of building one. Although No. 6880 will initially run with the hired tender from No. 3814, all effort is now focused on creating the finishing touch and giving Betton Grange its own tender, built to main line-running standards.
We have a strong foundation and are grateful to our 200+ members for their generosity in working on the locomotive’s construction and in raising funds to get the project where it is today. No. 6880 will be a very useful, hard-working locomotive and we are now asking for your help to see us through to completion.
