The first weekend in February also saw the first Volunteer working day of the year on Betton at Tyseley Locomotive Works. TLW staff have carried out work on the frames and re-wheeling, then it was our turn to put the springs back on. Also delighted to see that the Boiler has now been fully riveted, and just awaiting some final stays before it is to be tubed, very shortly, TLW staff have also been placed the pistons into the cylinders. Thankyou, as ever, to all our volunteers for their hardwork to Chris, Quentin, Barry, Paul 1, Paul2, Mick, Colin, Bill, RichS and Lynn for the well needed refreshments!

The boiler has been trial fitted into the locomotive to determine clearances and any other work needed before the tubes are fitted and an hydraulic test carried out. The work on the firebox is complete and the front taper section has been bolted on. The smoke box will be connected too before further work takes place.
our AGM was held in Llangollen on Sunday 14th October with a good turnout of Members attending at the Hand Hotel.
during the day we welcomed Michael and Patricia Hayden who have donated their model of No. 6800 Arlington Grange to the Society. The locomotive is now on display outside the Henry Robertson Suite shown here.
michael and Patricia became our latest members too.
Much of the firebox is complete now with a large number of the stays added. The reamainder will be fitted within the next week or so. These views show the quality of workmanship being achieved. It’s easy to see where the money goes in refurbishing the boiler to such a high standard.
The smoke box awaits fitting.
the locomotive sits outside temporarily whilst awaiting the wheel drop to sort out a few issues with frame rivets.
On the 25th June the locomotive was transported to Tyseley in readiness for the boiler to be fitted. This should take place during the summer. Once complete the movement back to Llangollen will be start of the work needed to finish the locomotive.
Yes we are getting very close to finishing the job. Right now we’re seeking sponsors for the Superheater elements, twenty one of each are needed to finish the boiler. See our shop page here.

a visit to Tyseley locomotive works a few days ago revealed the huge progress made with our boiler. The back head now complete, the new boiler ring ready to be fitted and the smoke box ring now fitted to the smoke box. All looks on course for completion as planned by the end of June.
In addition the steam fountain was nearing completion and the safety valve was being machined.
