First Tubes in Boiler

This week engineers at Tyseley fitted most of the small tubes to the boiler, cutting them to length and sliding them in. The large tubes will follow.
Brake Rigging & Cylinder Cocks
Published 18 June 2019 | Our team checked over the fully fitted brake rigging which is now nearing completion and also fitted the cylinder drain cocks and mechanism.
With the locomotive over the pit we were able to view the completed valve gear, the first picture shows the weigh shaft and expansion link looking forward and the second photo the reverse view showing the sheaves mounted on the middle axle.
More work at Tyseley
Published 7 June 2019 | Last weekend at Tyseley work continued fitting the cylinder lagging and completing the brake rodding. Meanwhile the boiler has been passed by the inspector to have the tubes fitted.
Latest Progress
Published 10 April 2019 | The following pictures illustrate the latest progress from both Tyseley and Llangollen.
At Tyseley the coupling rods have been fitted to the wheels, whilst preparation of the connecting rods has taken place adding paint to the rear of the rods. The boiler is edging ever nearer to completion with the fire hole inner and outer sheets riveted. At Llangollen the further painting of the tender is ongoing.
More progress as locomotive goes together
Published 21 February 2019 | as the following photographs illustrate, both the pistons and valves are now in the cylinders and the end caps fitted. Also the brake rigging is on.
‘The boiler is making progress too with the large tubes now on site and the ‘bottle ends’ are being fitted. Finally the superheater elements are being manufactured.
Latest Progress 2nd February 2019
Published 5 February 2019 | The first weekend in February also saw the first Volunteer working day of the year on Betton at Tyseley Locomotive Works. TLW staff have carried out work on the frames and re-wheeling, then it was our turn to put the springs back on. Also delighted to see that the Boiler has now been fully riveted, and just awaiting some final stays before it is to be tubed, very shortly, TLW staff have also been placed the pistons into the cylinders. Thankyou, as ever, to all our volunteers for their hardwork to Chris, Quentin, Barry, Paul 1, Paul2, Mick, Colin, Bill, RichS and Lynn for the well needed refreshments!

Boiler Trial Fitted
Published 4 December 2018 | The boiler has been trial fitted into the locomotive to determine clearances and any other work needed before the tubes are fitted and an hydraulic test carried out. The work on the firebox is complete and the front taper section has been bolted on. The smoke box will be connected too before further work takes place.

Published 6 November 2018 | The front taper section with the front tube plate has been fitted to the rest of the boiler and firebox at Tyseley.
The next job will be to fit the tubes
Latest news from Tyseley
Published 23 October 2018 | work continues on the boiler with the new front tube plate now fitted to the new front boiler section. Work finishing the firebox stays has also been completed. Finally work on the vacuum pump is being untaken to refurbish it.
