Rivet holes reamed out

Over the 4 days from 22nd – 25th November working members including Mick Prior, David Huntbatch, Richard Pumphrey and Quentin McGuinness successfull reamed out a large number of holes in the forward section of the locomotive’s frames ready for hot rivetting. The process involved the use of the magdrill. There are still further holes to be reamed out once final alignment of the front buffer beam has been completed. Once this has been done the hot rivetting can take place and this is expected to happen towards the end of the year.

The above work will allow the wheeeling of the locomotive to take place in early 2013

A NEW STORAGE CONTAINER

The Society has been given a 20′ Storage Container now kitted out with long shelf racking. The plan is to store parts used in the construction of the locomotive, labelling them so that we can produce a complete parts list for the build. This will help in identifying missing parts and in assessing what we have.

Part of the container has been reserved for the safe storage of Sales Stock and so most of the clothing, books and DVDs have now been placed in their new dry home.

Summer Raffle Draw

Our first raffle was started during Steel Steam and Stars III and came to its conclusion on Sunday the 9th of September on Llangollen station platform when we asked Harry Barber the train driver for the day to draw the four prizes.
The raffle was a great success and brought much appreciated funds to the project. We would like to say a huge thanks to all who helped sell the tickets and of course those people who purchased the tickets. The winner of the first prize was one of our 6880 members Mr Limb of Normanton,it’s good to see our members benefiting from their own hard work. We are hoping to run another raffle in the future and are looking forward to another great success.

1960’s Weekend

Betton Grange volunteers turned out in force to run a Sales Stand at the Llangollen Railway’s 1960s Gala Weekend. A big effort was made to sell Raffle Tickets and £300s worth were sold over the 2 days. SSS3 DVDs and the Llangollen Railway 2011 DVD filmed by David Huntbatch were selling well, helped by having two televisions running at each end of the Stand. Present were Mark Jones, Mick Prior, Jeff Jones, John Sandiford, Liz Curtis, Jon Kerr, Haydn Roberts, Dave and Amanda Gill, Geoff Griffiths and Quentin McGuinness.
