we have just taken delivery of two new motion brackets which were cast recently

Driver Experience Day

Sunday 2nd November saw a number of Express Members enjoying driving No. 3802 at the Llangollen Railway. Additionally they each received a Hornby model Grange re-named 6880 Betton Grange. These are some of the benefits of being an Express member ‘fast tracking’ 6880 towards completion.

First cylinder casting

the first of the two cylinder castings for the locomotive saw the light of day last week as shown below.

Engineering Director Chris Moore has inspected it and declared it fit for machining. The second cylinder is due to be cast this week

Centre Righthand Splasher

Over recent weeks through the initiative of Chris Moore Geoff Madden has fabricated new splashers for the locomotive.

Here is the centre righthand one during its trial fitting on 12th October

Cylinder Pattern

Some of the first views of the new cylinder pattern as manufactured.

The second photo sees the pattern buried in the casting box prior to casting, this is due to take place on Tuesday night 14th October!

The Fire Iron Tunnel and other Progress

The working weekend saw a start on prepping 5952 for a
boiler lift. Other work continued on brake hanger brackets and tidying up the
spring gear fitting split pins etc. Drawhook slot in buffer beam continues to be
slowly opened up to take Drawhook.

Template for drilling Fire Iron Tunnel

Work today cutting material for a template to drill the new fire iron tunnel so it can be fitted to the running plate

Fire Iron Tunnel

Engineering Manager Chris Moore has been instrumental in fabricating a new Fire Iron Tunnel incorporating new splashers for the left hand side of the locomotive. Subsequently the brass beading was added to the splashers and a dummy wooden nameplate set in place.
